“To those who have been to prison; I understand now what the system is truly like. I have seen the confusion, corruption, pain, abuse, negligence, fearful and arbitrary reality. The lack of healing, lack of care and the ignoring of scientific understanding. I have seen the entire range of completely guilty, to completely innocent and all the grey shades in between (from inmates, staff...all people within the justice system). I see, share and understand your pain. I do not judge. And no matter who you are, I hope you find your inner peace, healing and grow into all you are meant to be.
To those who have only heard of prisons; I understand your thoughts and feelings towards prisons too. Because I once knew nothing myself. And I too, did not think about prisons much. I did not think there were massive problems. How could there still be in the 21st century? I assumed it was good enough. With what the news, media, movies and TV shows depict (evil bad guys who must be stopped), it seemed prison was probably good enough and the courts were probably fine too. I now know this to be false. But I remember not being aware and I remember that there is no way of knowing until you or your loved one has been dragged through this horrendous system. What is most terrifying to me is that I completely understand why people do not notice or care. How could they when they never see or experience the truth of it? So I understand you. I do not judge. And no matter who you are, I hope you find your inner peace, healing and grow into all you are meant to be.
We cannot develop, work on, or better anything in society without first understanding one another. Simply imagining why people feel the way they do is not helpful. But if you open your heart and mind to understanding someone genuinely, with time you will come to understand everyone, including yourself. Nothing is surprising. And from that point, we can make waves of progress. It is said that love and understanding can be synonyms. This is one path in filling the world with love, and allowing the ripple effect that instantly betters everything it touches. I choose to be open to understanding you.
